For We May Never Know

The Honorable Bishop C. M. Bailey, Leader

“For I reckon that the sufferings of this present time are not worthy to be compared with the glory which shall be revealed in us.” Romans 8:18

Stepping high and singing, “For We May Never Know,” Apostle S.C. Madison and the General Council came down the aisle. There stood Daddy McCollough, as a living sacrifice on the altar,  with a posture that made him appear to be ten feet tall. His wingspan must have been wide enough to wrap his arms around everyone in the sanctuary. The entire room seemed to shake with the swift intentional movements of his hands.

Gracefully gliding across the mountain, he thawed even the most frozen with the warmth of his smile. His preaching voice seemed to bellow from the deep with the words “God Almighty.” Nevertheless, he would rise to an elevated pitch only given to angels when he cried joyfully what sounded like “High Lord.” The service could go no further once Daddy McCollough witnessed to the spirit of God with a sudden turn of his head. Without saying a word, he moved the entire congregation to cry, Abba, Daddy. The holy spirit laid siege on the service as the people shouted conversing with God.

We may never know the true impact of Daddy McCollough’s community renewal and urban development projects. We may never know the lives that were changed through higher education and the McCollough Scholarships. We may never know how many young people were rescued from the streets and placed on the McCollough Luxury Liners traveling throughout the country working for God. We may never know how many sinners were converted from the error of their ways. We may never know the true number of souls that cried holy through the power of the spiritual hurricane. We may never know how he was able to do all the wonderful things that he did for us.

But God knows that he touched us in a way that can never be forgotten. God has kept his record unbroken, unshattered and written in our hearts to be sung throughout eternity. As we continue at times to hear the words he uttered before his departure, “Fare Thee Well,” we are reminded that the extent to which Daddy McCollough’s love has transcended our lives can only be answered in this way… For We May Never Know.”

“Also now, behold, my witness is in heaven, and my record is on high” (Job 16:19).
